But the United Kingdom's Supreme Court last month ruled the flights would violate international human rights laws enshrined in domestic legislation. Since that ruling, Britain has been seeking to renegotiate its agreement with Rwanda to include a binding treaty that it would not expel asylum seekers sent there by Britain - one of the court's major concerns. The court said the plan breached international undertakings - including the European Convention on Human Rights, the United Nations' Refugee Convention and Convention against Torture. The Rwanda policy was originally announced by former Prime Minister Boris Johnson last year, but no asylum seekers have been sent to the country yet.

Nov 12 (Reuters) - The European Union (EU) condemned on Sunday an escalation of violence in Sudan's Darfur region, warning of the danger of "another genocide" after conflict there between 2003-2008 killed some 300,000 people and displaced more than 2 million. A war since April between Sudan's regular army and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary has destabilised the western region and reignited long-simmering feuds there. "These latest atrocities are seemingly part of a wider ethnic cleansing campaign conducted by the RSF with the aim to eradicate the non-Arab Masalit community from West Darfur, and comes on top of the first wave of large violence in June," Borrell said. "The international community cannot turn a blind eye on what is happening in Darfur and allow another genocide to happen in this region." Unifor, which represents about 5,600 Canadian auto workers, were threatening to go on strike at all three of Ford's plants in the country if a deal was not reached by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday (0359 GMT on Wednesday). "We leveraged our union’s most powerful weapon: the right to strike," Unifor said of the tentative deal in a statement. The UAW has said it will announce strikes against more U.S. plants on Friday if no serious progress is made in talks with automakers.

"We leveraged our union's most powerful weapon: the right to strike," Unifor said of the tentative deal in a statement. Unifor had sought improved wages and pensions, as well as support in the transition to electric vehicles and additional investment commitments by Ford. The Canadian union will now turn to getting deals with General Motors (GM.N) and Chrysler parent Stellantis (STLAM.MI), whose deadlines had been extended while the Ford talks proceeded. The UAW has said it will announce strikes against more U.S. plants on Friday if no serious progress is made in talks with automakers. Many UAW workers are most concerned about the tiered wage structure that they say has created a yawning gap between newer and older employees, forcing some to work two jobs to make ends meet.

Sept 14 (Reuters) - Alphabet's (GOOGL.O) Google has given a small group of companies access to an early version of Gemini, its conversational artificial intelligence software, The Information reported on Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter. Gemini is intended to compete with OpenAI's GPT-4 model, according to the report. Google has intensified investments in generative AI this year as it plays catch-up after Microsoft-backed OpenAI's launch of ChatGPT last year took the tech world by storm. It is also expected to help software engineers write code and generate original images based on what users ask to see. The search and advertising giant plans to make Gemini available to companies through its Google Cloud Vertex AI service.
